Tight schedules were no problem for our team at Harrisburg International Airport, the site of new taxiway lighting, ALSF-2 lighting, landing zone lighting, and remote weather sensors.
The biggest challenge on this job was working around short work windows and limited available hours. Most work had to be done from 12:00AM - 5:30AM to allow the airport to operate normally. When work began, the team had just one shift to displace the landing threshold and shorten the runway. After runway work was complete, the team again had just one shift to return the runway to normal. Despite the short work windows, the team finished the project nearly 2,000 man-hours ahead of estimate.
“This is in part due to the crew working in concert, each person knowing what and where their next tasks were,” says Project Manager David Colestock. “Additionally, our experience in this environment has enabled us to refine our processes and procedures to be more efficient.”
