MIDDLETOWN, PA - Runway rehabilitation at Harrisburg International Airport (HIA) in Middletown, PA wrapped up early thanks in part to a crew from Bruce & Merrilees' Keystone Transportation team. The team's dedication and professionalism allowed it to exceed progress estimates despite a compressed work schedule.

Work began in May of 2018. The scope of work was large: the crew needed to install a new runway centerline lighting system with nearly 120 lights, adjust 350 in-pavement lights to grade, temporarily displace (then return) the runway landing threshold to accommodate planned pavement work, and install new weather sensors in the new pavement.

The biggest challenge came from the short work windows and limited available hours. Work can only be completed between 12:00AM and 5:30AM, to allow the airport to operate normally. As a result, careful advanced planning is necessary to allow the team to be as efficient as possible.

Even in a fast-paced work environment, the project team worked with integrity and an eye toward the customer's best interests. Bruce & Merrilees communicated with the HIA Operations and Maintenance team in order to initiate plan revisions that may reduce future maintenance costs. By making the customer's needs a priority, B&M once again exceeded the expectations of the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority and the project's prime contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc.
