HARRISBURG, PA - Bruce & Merrilees' Keystone Transportation team is off to a great start in Harrisburg, where we are working to replace 65 traffic and pedestrian signals, as well as create a fiber-optic interconnect between 11 signals in downtown Harrisburg and the Public Safety Center. The team didn't let winter weather stop them from getting a jump on construction, opting to work through inclement weather. As a result of their efforts, the project is now forecasted ahead of schedule.
The most significant part of the project is to build the FO interconnect, which includes a GPS preemption system through nearly a dozen downtown intersections. The system will sense when emergency vehicles approach and adjust the traffic signals to accommodate them. The FO interconnect will tie in many different systems, including power, fiber-optic, and data lines, and create a sort of media hub for the City.
The team has exemplified Bruce & Merrilees' Core Values. Their work has been Safe, recording one near miss and zero recordable incidents. The team has shown Integrity while on the jobsite, coordinating with all project entities — from owner & managers to vendors & suppliers — for the betterment of the project. Our team is Dedicated, working through inclement weather in order to get a jump on the project timeline. The team is Professional on the job, even going so far as to dig out a neighboring business's parking lot after one particularly bad snowstorm.
The biggest labor push is yet to come. The team will need to pull 15,000LF of fiber-optic cable through nearly a dozen downtown intersections. We are working hard to deliver a successful project and another satisfied customer.
