Bruce & Merrilees Part of Winning Design Team for Innovative Congestion Management Project
ABINGDON, MD - April 19, 2017 - The Maryland State Highway Administration has selected the Design-Build team of 16 firms, including Bruce & Merrilees, to move forward with its $100 million I-270 Innovative Congestion Management Project. The project is a Progressive Design-Build that will help reduce congestion on the 30+ mile corridor of I-270 in Maryland.
Bruce & Merrilees' scope of work will include multiple types of Intelligent Transportation Devices, including Closed Circuit Televisions, Dynamic Message Signs, Incident Detection Systems and Ramp Metering techniques. Contracted work will also include Highway Lighting and Signage. The General Contractor is Concrete General of Gaithersburg, MD.
The I-270 project will be the first transportation Progressive Design-Build in the nation. A typical transportation Design-Build project is about 35% designed when the Design-Build Team bids on it. A Progressive Design-Build brings the Design-Build team on board at the earliest stages of the project development. This ensures the Design-Build team is a part of developing design solutions from the very beginning, promoting the greatest amount of collaboration between the owner, the designer and the contractor.
