Bruce & Merrilees’ High Voltage team spent much of 2020 upgrading security at critical substations in America's power infrastructure.
The team worked at public utility substations in Ohio and Indiana, installing a double layer of security fencing around each site. The two layers of fencing consist of a standard chain-link fence around the perimeter and a high security fence within. The security fencing includes anti-dig panels, barbed wire, a camera and video system and touch/vibration sensors. Large gates are placed at all vehicle access points and operated via a key card system.
B&M's Project Manager reports that the team’s quality of work was “near perfect,” despite working with a new fencing supplier: “The crews had a steep learning curve, as this was the first Guardiar fence we have installed. By the end of each project, the crews were exceeding production and we met or beat all customer milestones.”
COVID-19 complicated the projects; work kicked off in February 2020, just as the virus was making landfall in the U.S. However, team leaders demonstrated a positive attitude and commitment to Safety while following all virus protocols and keeping abreast of any situation where a team member may have had potential exposure to or symptoms of the virus.
